Marty Erickson joins Gene who will be using his 'Firebird' F.

Hey Tim,

I was there Thursday night. Really nice.

I noticed Gene was playing an F, which he usually uses for Mahler 1. (Pretty sure he also uses it for Bydlo, but dont remember for sure. They're doing Pictures on their '08-'09 season opener along with Finlandia and Chopin piano #2.)

Any more info on this axe?

His Orchestral Excerpts CD says he used a B&S F on some of the tracks. That CD was made over 10 years ago, though.

Maybe it's Marty Erickson who is using the Firebird?

You never know, I've seen Mr. Pokorny play several times, and I have seen him playing several 6/4 CC's including but not limited to, a Yamaha, Hirsburnner (I heard he owns 2), the York, both #1 and #2, and i've heard rumors he also owns a Nirschl. Oh how nice it must be to have options.

As far as F's I've seen a PT-10 and a Gronitz PF-125, if he's now playing a Firebird that's fantastic. I repeat, oh how nice it must be to have options!!

On a side note, I'm curious to know if he will indeed play Bydlo on the season opener on an F or Tenor Tuba. Or if he will pass it off to, in his own words, "one of his tacet Trombone colleagues."

Isn't it a urban quasi-legend that his contract stipulates he doesn't have to play Bydlo? In any case, Michael Mulcahy played the solo on euphonium when I saw them play it in 2006.
