Kalison Bb Tubas

How many happy Kalison owners are there out there? I got one recently and had the dent taken out and I cleaned it. It plays wonderfully. So cool that it comes apart with a screwdriver and beer! Yes, it is different than a Mirafone. But what a sound!

I'm a former Kalison DS CC owner, and a regretful one at that.
If anyone has one for the sale price on Baltimore Brass' sight (on hold, darn it!), let me know! ($3,500)

A friend in college back in ~'91 tried one out and it wasn't great sounding. However, the later ones, where the offset on the fourth valve was more ergonomic, the instrument on the whole improved. I really enjoyed that instrument; it's a more lyrical rather than bombastic instrument.

I agree with J.C.S.
Kalison has had some very bad horns in the past, but I think that they are much better than they were back in the '90s, as they redesigned the models. I have owned my DS since 2004, and I love it. The only thing that I would say that bugs me about it, like all Kalison horns, is that the metal that they use is simply too thin. Dings and dents tend to happen a bit easier as compared to other makes. It is an excellent small ensemble/band horn.
The main problem with Kalison horns is that they are not consistent enough. I tried out 5 different Kalison DS horns before buying mine, and each one felt differently than the previous one. So, if there are any hesitant buyers out there, go somewhere where you can try out a bunch of them. They are not the best horns, but they are far from the worst...
