Hey, this is my first post on tubenet
On some CD cover I saw online, I saw Arnold Jacobs had a big rotary tuba, what kind of tuba is that. I thought he played on a big piston horn. Im doing this for my high school research project

On the "Czardas" track in Portrait Of An Artist, he says that he was using a Holton tuba. I'm not sure if they was the one on the cover, but I'm sure there are others on this board that cna provide you with an answer.

If it is the cover I am thinking of, that was a 3/4 Rudy CC. I'm not sure if he ever owned that horn; I was told that the picture was taken at a booth at the Midwest Conference in 197X.

The horn on the cover of the Portrait of an Artist CD is a Rudy 3/4 that he had in the studio for many years. In appreciation for many years of kindness from his neighbor Mark (a Chicago cop), he gave the horn to Mark's tuba playing son. I played the Rudy many times - it was a fine horn.

In 1979-80 I sold Mr. Jacobs my ¾ Rudy. It had 4 valves, so it was not the one in the picture. Does anybody have a memory of where that horn might have gone? I don't remember any good defining details except it had a beautiful upper range and was a little stuffy down low. Just feeling sentimental this morning.

AHA! i actually know the owner of this horn. his name is Morgan Jenks. he was a several time TX allstate performer (for as much as it's worth). he went to sam houston state for two years and has transfered to Cal-Arts institute for an electronics music degree. i've played on this particular rudy for some time and it's a fantastic horn. he said he got it for a steal. hope this helps.
