I was just wondering what all of the SLP owners out there use for a gig bag. I'm looking into replacing my old ProTec bag, as it fits too loosely, sits too low on my back and the shoulder strap clasps dig into my shoulders when I carry the horn around. It looks like the standard route to go is the Altieri bag, but I'm just curious to see if there are other viable bags out there.

You might want to consider Reunion Blues gig bags. They are very durable and sit high on your back.

Altieri-cheap,convenient,comfortable,space for everything.Reunion blues,Dolly-more expensive,heavier,better protection,slightly less convenient(IMO),can take a while to get one.A tuba in a bag must be treated like you're carrying it in a wrapped up bed sheet no matter which one you get.Good luck...

I've got a Dolly Bag for my 45-SLP that I purchased used via Tubenet. It's great and I'd buy another, all things considered.

If you're going to use a bag, this is the one to get, though Mike is right about the drawbacks, especially when purchased new (expensive, heavy, long time to get). I don't find it any less convenient than any other gig bag I've ever had, especially when considering the significantly better protection it offers over an Alteri bag.

I've used Soundwear gigbag for my SLP for couple of years now. I've been very pleased. It had projected horn very well and I've only made one dent using that bag. I dropped the horn from my shoulder and the height was something like 20 cm. The dent isn't too big and I think I have to thank for the gigbag. In my opinion the Soundwear gigbags are the best you can get.
