I have a Mienl Weston 2155P with the big valve set and I am wanting to replace my metal valve guides with the nylon guides. Can anyone give me some sort of explanation on how this is done? It seems like it should be relatively easy enough but then again I don't feel like screwing my horn up .
I think these are also the same valves found on many of the B&S horns so you might not have to be a Mienl guy/gal in order to help me out.

First - don't. Unless you are doing a lot of recording with close-in mics, you might want to considern not fixing what ain't broke. My 2 cents...

If you insist, you can buy the guides from Dillon music. I would NOT recommend fitting them yourself. They are always MUCH too large for the guide channel, and have to be filed and fit very carefully. Once that's done, they wear out really fast, the main reason I hate these!

Find a technician who has access to the delrin replacements being offered by one of the suppliers. These were developed to be more durable than nylon, but less noisy than metal guides. Yes, you do have to fit these as well, but they last infinitely longer than any other plastic guide I've ever used.

Harv Hartman in Pennsylvania (Harvs HAppy Horns) 610-367-7232 put the nylon guides on my sousa. He did an excellent job. I recommend him for any repairs like that. Also JD at SFA might know of somebody locally that can do it. I'm sure tatum music in Longview could do it, they have done well with my 20J repairs in the past.

Well I know a place in dallas, Houghton horns but I was just trying figure out what is involved. I know it is best to use a repair tech. but I would like to know how things work. Salas I know would recommend Houghton(spelling?)
