Hey Luke, you beat me to the post!
Luke forgot to mention something very VERY important though...
THERE IS FREE FOOD BEFORE THE CONCERT.
From what we've been told, the rehearsal for all of the area tubists/euphoniumists will be with the band from 5pm to 6pm. Following the rehearsal will be (FREE!) dinner supplied by the Friends of the Wheaton Band. If you having a chance to meet lots of tuba players of all ages in the Wheaton area isn't reason enough to come, then the food should be!
Tuba and Euphonium players of all skill levels and all age levels are invited. If you can play either instrument, be there!

Seeing as the venue is Wheaton College, I surmise that the strongest libations available will be Kool-Aid. Am I correct????

Are just the artists you mentioned playing in addition to the mass ensemble group at the end or are there other groups performing?
I don't know the specifics as of yet, but I am under the assumption that the four invited artists will be performing as soloists (either individually or collectively) with the Wheaton Band. I would assume that they would also be joining the mass ensemble at the end.
tofu wrote:Are area tuba quartets invited to play on the program?
According to what Bruce has told me, he has A LOT in store for the program. At the first rehearsal, I tossed out the idea to him of having a tuba-euphonium quartet from the ensemble play something. Unfortunately the piece I had in mind wasn't with band accompaniment, and I don't think it was quite what he was looking for. He mentioned that if were to work up the piece anyways, he might have us do something like play outside before the concert or something.
If you know a quartet piece that has band accompaniment and wanted to play it, it might work out. Email Steve Klaus with the information on that.
tofu wrote:The mass ensemble - is this group playing just one or multiple tunes?
Last year when we did a mass clarinet ensemble (*shudder*), I believe the mass ensemble performed two pieces. Again, I don't know any specific details, but I would take a gander and say that we'll probably do no more than two tunes, but one is a possibility.
tofu wrote:Is the concert free to the public or is this a fund raiser for the WMB?
I'm actually not sure. I will have to ask my parents when they get home later (I've never actually been in the audience for one of these concerts). I think there are tickets though, but don't quote me on that.
tofu wrote:It's been a long time since I played in the WMB so I'm wondering if this a Bruce Moss idea or somebody else's?
I'm pretty sure this is one of Bruce's ideas. He had wanted to do something like this a few years ago, but it fell through for some reason. He had originally had hoped to have Mr. Pokorny invited as an artist too, but the date didn't work into his schedule.
Hope this helped!

For the meal, I think there will be some pop...
As far as afterwards goes though, I'm sure a place in a not-so-dry nearby town can be found.

FYI-I was emailed by someone that said the link to the Band Manager Steve Klauss wasn't working. Stay posted as I am double checking it now.

BUMP--If you are interested in joining the concert, there is still time. It is uncommon to get as many great tuba guest artists in a single concert, so don't be shy and don't miss this great opportunity. There is still time to register. Come early (and often).
