Concerto Competition

My school (Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, WV) has a concerto competition every other year. I am interested in entering this year but I am looking for some ideas for pieces. The piece has to also have an orchestral accompaniment. My first choice is Variations In Olden Style, but I would like to get some other ideas. I am not really particular about what style the piece is as long as it is fun.
Thanks,
Kevin Lilley

You could always try the Ewazen. And there's also the Gregson, (which can be heard on James Gourlay's great CD of British tuba concertos.) Now that I think of it, any piece on Gourlay's CD would be a good choice. There's also an interesting piece by Vagn Holmboe, for tuba and orchestra. I think it was recorded by Jens-Bjorn Larsen at some point.

Whichever one you pick, make sure it's not the Gregson...that one's mine!
