Just curious about the genre makeup of TubeNetters. You may select either what you play most or what you most like to play.

Modern music is another that tickles the fancy.

I object to "dixie" catagorized with polka and not with jazz.

To say dixie and jazz are separate things is to show ignorance.

I like the late Baroque Period personally.

While I did select one (rock/pop/country etc.) if it is music, not opera or rap, I pretty much like it. I've been listening to classical at work a lot lately, but discovered a public radio band that plays some decent jazz in the wee hours, but it won't always come in very well.

Have you listened to much opera? I feel like some of the best moments in classical music happen in opera (though, admittedly, Wagner's my favorite composer).

I love R&B, but I don't like rap.. I'd rather R&B be associated with blues, personally. (Rhythm and blues.) But I understand the grouping.

Classical: Anything Tuba, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Berlioz, Strauss, Gershwin, Bruckner

Everything Else: Radiohead, Ben Folds, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mae, Muse, Ben Kweller, Jack Johnson, Jamie Cullum, Kings of Convenience (Yes, I am in High School)

At this point, there are no votes for Gospel, and yet people are often talking about playing at their churches.

I understand the complaint about Dixie not being with Jazz. I guess I was thinking more in terms of the contexts in which these groups play (often outdoors, often funny clothes, often alchohol involved).

I understand that R&B and Rap are different genres (I generally prefer the former to the latter), but there is a fair amount of crossover/collaboration among the popular artists involved.

I thought Metal was a subgenre of Rock, no? I mean come on, Bob, gimme a break!

I find myself in the majority with my Classical vote, but that is horn only.

For tuba...I like brass quintet, orchestral pops, brass band. I never got to play anything "good" in orchestra on tuba except for Meistersinger and Pictures. Both of which were pretty cool.

I am perfectly willing to jump on any type of music if I have the right instrumentation. I'll do it and love it if I can get away with it.
My tragically white son is into rap but he can't talk fast enough to do it at karioke sessions.
I enjoy most any type music that is written and performed well. I will play anything all night long for free beer and a boat bunk upon which to lay my weary head.

Anyone in NYC know a bass bone/guitar player named Joel Shelton? I ran into him at an audition in Florida 20 years ago or so, and we kept in touch for a while but I haven't heard anything from or about him in quite a while.

When he told me he played guitar, I asked him, naively, "what kinda stuff do you do? something mellow, or what?" His answer "Mellow is not in my vocabulary!"

I can digest 'most any kind of music. My favorite is orchestral music (all periods and styles, etc.). I also very much like metal, but there are few things I despise more than pretentious, "TRVE KVLT" metal (I'm looking at you, Job For A Cowboy). I like a lot of rap, too. Even the "meaningless" kind. What a lot of people don't realize is that "rock" music incorporates the "gangs, drugs and hoes" cliché a lot, too.
