OK, so maybe I get a little manic about music sometimes, but I just did an hour of the film music on the station and ran across a piece I hadn't heard by Bernard Hermmann, "Fight with the Skeleton" from "The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad". Talk about tuba friendly, most of the track is one big tuba solo. The recording was from 1974 with the London Philharmonic. Don't know who played, but it was pretty f*&%&$ing awesome.
Cheers,
Chuck

OUCH!!! Real big mistake by me. The orchestra was the National Philharmonic, a pick-up group of the best London musicians. It was recorded in London in November of 1974, shortly before Herrmann died. The tuba playing is incredible. FWIW, John Fletcher, to my and others knowledge, never played with the LPO. Any help on this one?

John Fletcher was principal tubist with the London Philharmonic [sic - London Symphony Orchestra] from 1968, and he passed away in 1987 (but stopped playing with the LSO sometime before that).

Fletcher Recorded the Vaughn-Williams with the London SYMPHONY Orchestra conducted by Andre Previn. He was the principal tuba with group until his death in 1986 Previn wrote his 4 Outings for Quintet with Fletcher in mind while Previn was the music director of the London Symphony Orchestra. Am I missing something?
