Try a G & W Churada - smallest cup diameter I have found among the 30 or so mouthpieces I own. The next in size is Matanuska. Also, I Yamaha 65 and a Yamaha Bobo solo have small diameter mouthpieces but the Bobo Solo is also a shallow mouthpiece, where the 65 is deeper.

I could look at my mouthpieces and in most respects, guess where they line up on these criteria, but not backbore: Medium Could someone suggest a way to loosely gauge a mouthpiece's backbore?

I sure wouldn't expect to find useful documentation of this parameter in any of the catalogues or charts mentioned above.

(I don't expect this glass slipper is going to fit any mouthpiece I know of, though.)

I thought about posting MF4, but I thought the cup diameter was larger than what you are looking for.

There is a new line of mouthpieces receiving great reviews in the UK. The line is called Alliance mouthpieces and are now shipped with all new Besson products. They have been developed in consultation with James Gourlay, and play tested by the Grimethorpe brass band, among others.

While these mouthpieces are EXCELLENT (own a churada and do like it), the throat size is much smaller than I am looking for.

The terms used were taken from two old schilke catalogs, hoping that this would lead to a more concise (albeit still vague) idea of what I meant.

""Medium Backbore" means that there is a very small amount of taper or parabolic shape to the end of the shank."

Being as I would like the throat very open, this means that there is little or no non-cylindrical shape after the throat.

Looks like a Doug Elliott TU-126-24AW rim (yes, a rim like a Bach 24AW--very wide and rounded); TU J cup (medium-shallow); JCE shank. The J is to match the cup, the C is a large throat (for a contrabass tuba), and the E is for a conventional European outer shank. There are other choices, of course, for the shank.

If that doesn't get you close enough, maybe you need to chat with Doug or Terry Warbuton or Ivan Giddings about making up something custom.

Miraphone TU 13 meets all the qualifications except maybe the throat size.

From the Miraphone official specs ...
TU13 / Tuba Winston Morris
Cup: shallow
Cup depth: 36,4 mm (1,433 inch)
Throat: 7,5 mm (0,295 inch)
Cup diameter: 32,0 mm (1,260 inch)

No official specs on the rim width, but I have it here, and it's about as fat as the town dog.
