Upcoming USMB events

Shameless plug follows:
Mark Thiele will be performing Arutunian's Tuba Concerto with the Marine Band on Wednesday, July 23, 8:00 pm, on the West Terrace of the United States Capitol. The Marine Band Tuba Quartet will be performing on the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center in D.C. on Saturday, August 2, at 6:00 pm. Tomorrow night (Thursday, July 17th,) the Marine Dixieland Band is playing at the Sylvan Theater (next to the Washington Monument) at 8:00 pm. I'm bringing the helicon.
Last but not least, if you know somebody who's got an extra ticket, or come down right before the concert starts at 8:00 and get an unclaimed seat, the Marine Band is celebrating it's 210th birthday with John Williams on the podium in the Kennedy Center concert hall. He's conducting a program of numerous film scores, including "1941", "The Reivers", and "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind." No, the mothership-shattering-glass solo isn't in there, but it's a wicked chart nonetheless. Cameron Gates has the big solo in "The Reivers" and John Cradler gets the call from "Jaws." We just read down a new arrangement of a piece from the new Indiana Jones movie this morning, and several pieces on the concert will be performed to film clips on the big screen. We're using Williams' version of the National Anthem that he conducted during Game 1 of the World Series last fall.
Hope some of you can join us!
