Identifying Tuba Mouthpieces

I have a collection of about 40 mouthpieces and I can find specs and history for all but two of them. The two mysteries are a Bruno Tilz-NEA M7 and a Miraphone Self Model BT. Can anyone tell me anything about these two mouthpieces?

Thanks.

And email Miraphone for the other one.

Thanks for the link. I actually can find a Tilz 310-M7 in several lists but I find no reference to a "NEA" marking on the mouthpiece. I am assuming it does not mean National Education Association but can not guess what it means. I am ashamed to say that I took German in college and speak and read well enough to keep from getting arrested but not well enough to translate Acronyms. Life is a series of puzzles often wrapped in exemplunyms.

If you take a look at the short column second from left, just below the photo, the NEA/310 indication hints that NEA/310 are alternative names for the same line of mouthpieces with 310 being the one currently in use. Somewhere higher in the site hierarchy NEA/310 was the button leading to this page, which I plucked out of by means of "open frame in new window" to get a precise link.

If there is a congruency between the measurements indicated and what you find on the mouthpiece in question, then this is the documentation you look for.

Thank you for all your help. I think, when Miraphone responds, I will have it all sorted out. And, especially, thanks to Klaus for his translations and interpretations for the Tilz chart. I appreciate all your help.

Scooby Tuba wrote:I *think* that the Self model is a cheater mpc. Tuba rim, 6 1/2AL cup, bass trombone shank.

I have one with a mid-sized, euro, Boosey/Willson euphonium shank around here somewhere...
I'll second that...

The "NEA" designation on Bruno Tilz's mouthpieces refers to "Neustadt/Aisch" -Neustadt on the Aisch river. A small town near Nuremberg where Herr Tilz's workshop is located. There are MANY "Neustadts" in Germany, and they usually are qualified by some landmark, river, or proximity to another town.

Thank you all for your input to this question's answers. Jim Self told me that the Miraphone Self Model BT mouthpiece is a Bach 1½ G Bass Trombone Mouthpiece with a Miraphone C 4 rim on it. He said it is no longer in production by Miraphone but Marcinciewiz has a version of it for sale. Also, Eva Staudinger, of Miraphone, was very helpful and generous with her time in doing research on the development and sale of this mouthpiece although she had no information on the specifics of it.

It is really nice to have a resource like this when esoteric questions like mine come.
