Charlie:

I'll be there but will be working in the booth area. Let me know when your gang is on the schedule, I'd like to drop in and listen.

Stop by the Purchasing Alliance booth next to the LifeWay Technology area and look me up.

Church Orchestras

I have been following this thread and the survey which more or less began it. It is good to know we are represented well in churches throughout this great country.

I play in our church orchestra(and sing in the choir, when the orchestra is not playing). Our orchestra is about 35-40 members. It includes a relatively small string section, but a string section. Our choir has about 130 people enrolled. About 3-4 times per year, we have an all music Sunday. This is very enjoyable for me. It means that we play at three worship services. The music we perform is not usually particularly difficult. Of course, the tuba part is not usually very challenging at all. However, being the bottom of this large ensemble is really cool. And on some of the pieces, kick in a large pipe organ. I forgot to mention that our church membership is 4,000+. So it is pretty big, but not as huge as some mentioned in other posts.

Finally, I can say that this Sunday is a big music Sunday--Palm Sunday. Mostly music, with some drama. I'm looking forward to it. I guess this would possibly fit in the events section, but seems to fit well here. The church is University United Methodist Church in San Antonio. It is on De Zavala Road.

I hope all of us in the tuba community will do our part to maintain the tuba connection in our churches. Play there every chance you get.
