Ewazen Recording?
Does anyone know of a possible recording for the Concerto for Tuba or Bass Trombone by Eric Ewazen? I'm playing this piece next semester for my junior recital at Arkansas Tech University. Thank in advance!

I really like the recording that Charles Vernon has of the work. Try here:TubaNerd88 wrote:Does anyone know of a possible recording for the Concerto for Tuba or Bass Trombone by Eric Ewazen? I'm playing this piece next semester for my junior recital at Arkansas Tech University. Thank in advance!

Hey matt, dig around, might be one in your own backyard. I played this in my last performance before I left. There is probably a recording somewhere. I'm sure it sounds better than that nasty recording of celestial suite you dog, from when I was an underclassman.

Haha, I've heard that recording actually. It's not as nasty as you may think it is.djwesp wrote:TubaNerd88 wrote:Does anyone know of a possible recording for the Concerto for Tuba or Bass Trombone by Eric Ewazen? But I'll definitely look into the recording of the Ewazen concerto from that site. I'm playing this piece on a Bb tuba, so that's already a challenge as is.

There's a recording of Fritz Kaenzig playing it with the University of Michigan wind ensemble... I don't have the CD here with me to check the title, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find.

As mentioned earlier, the University of Michigan Symphony band has a recording of Fritz Kaenzig doing the Ewazen on their "Collaborations" album, an Equilibrium recording.

I'll second Bryan's recommendation of Charlie Vernon with Ewazen on piano; really nice. I prefer hearing this piece as a sonata; so much of the accompaniment just fits a keyboard.

Thanks for all of the helpful links and opinions everyone. I actually managed to find the Charles Vernon recording from the campus music lab. I really enjoy his performance of the piece. I'm looking forward to playing this piece in the future.
