A quick note to say how helpful, amicable and knowledgeable I found Steve Ferguson to be at Ferguson Music / Horn Guys in La Crescenta, Los Angeles. I visited last week and was pleased to try an excellent Alexander 163 CC, a Gronitz PCM and a Miraphone 1291. There should be more tuba retailers like this worldwide!

Totally agree! I bought a Weril, sight unseen, from Steve and crew and they were great to deal with. And, the horn was everything they said and more.

I've never been to the Horn Guys but if I were near, I'd have a look.

From the website, they have tons of really expensive horns. How does it work in the music business? Do they have to pay the distributor up front or just pay off when the instrument is sold?

It can vary. Your local guitar shop either pays COD for serial numbered items, or finances. Accessories are usually on a net/10 or net/30 basis.

I would bet that a dealer in stuff like Ferguson, Dillon, TE, CMC, etc carry have lots of financing in place. That's one main reason more local stores don't keep tubas, bassoons, etc, in stock.

Yeah, add me to the list of satisfied customers.

About 3 years ago, I bought a Conn 62HI bass trombone from those guys, also sight unseen. I was not disappointed with the horn (though somebody else clearly was, hence it was returned), and I got a good deal.

They even threw in a Bach 2G mouthpiece for me, gratis.

I have also had great experiences with them. I visited the store once when I was in the area, but have purchased things via phone/internet from them. Even when Glen Chronkite made my tuba gig bag the wrong size, they helped me out and got me a new bag! I would suggest this store to anyone!
