My understanding is that Amati is Cerveny or Cerveny is Amati. I don't know if they have them made in China and then slap there name on them or if they make them in house.

Amati is the owning company.
Cerveny is a division thereof.
Naming:
Cerveny is engraved on their medium through best rotary instruments.
Amati is engraved on the simpler rotary versions (fewer valves and less nickel silver) and on the piston instruments.

Amati is a Czech company. Amati is the "parent" brand of Cerveny. As far as I know, all of their horns are built in the Czech Republic, not China.

That's the horn I play. It's a 3/4 student model, but it's OK in community band, church, and TubaChristmas. When I bought it in '99, it was available and affordable. I alternated between Bach 18 & 24AW's, but with the small bore (.640), I do better with a Conn Helleberg. It's not the dream horn, but for a beginning student or an old fart (like me) getting back into playing, it will do the job. However, the valves need to be oiled constatntly as they're not as responsive as, say a King or Conn.

The Amati ABB 323 and it's rotor counter part the Ceveny CBB 471-4 are awesome little horns. Yes they are small with a low leadpipe, but the 323 is better in-tune than the bigger ABB 321 and ABB 621 tubas from Amati.
Everyone who has bought one of those two horns has kept it and been very happy. I can't recall the last time I ever saw a used on for sale but the one time when a family traded up to a bigger horn for their daughter.
