Does anyone have a quick and cheap idea for setting a contra down in the stands during football games. I tech a High School Brassline, and need some ideas. Or if anyone has a stand they would like to get rid of cheap, let me know. Tim

the way our seating was arranged, was alternating seats on the benches so each player in the band had an open seat directly infront of them. Gave plenty of room for sousaphones to be set right in front of the player, tbones and trumpets not to bash the hat of someone, etc. The band, however, then takes up twice as many seats as the paying customer though so in some locales might be an issue.

Use sousaphones instead: made to wear, will lay down easily with just loosening the bell screws and rotating slightly, The goosneck and bits are readily accessible and removable to prevent damage; in short, the horn designed for the purpose.

It depends what you want. If you want an area for the tuba to sit, then try the stands idea. If you want a way of setting them down and not get scratched, try sousa covers with a hole in the middle of them.

Not to criticize this comment, but if they don't have the money for both marching horns and concert horns, they might be using convertibles. Along with that, I myself like the sound of a contra/marching tuba better than a sousaphone.

Well, if a few more scratches won't make a difference, you can shove it inbetween the "floor" and the seat in front of you. That's what I do with my beat-up souzie. :)

You could hand it to a hottie majorette and tell her to keep it warm for you.

Sounds like I missed something in marching band. :(

In my next life I want to come back as a reversable overlay.
