Alto horns
Altos are certainly still made and used- most notably as an integral part of the traditional British brass band. Keyed in Eflat, they fill the middle voice role left vacant by the French horn which is not a part of the brass band. Alto horns are much easier to play than the french horn. You can purchase them through Woodwind and Brasswind as well as other merchants.

The Eb alto is sometimes called a "peckhorn" in the US and a "tenorhorn" in the UK.
While easier to play than the "French" horn, getting hold of a good one with decent intonation is not easy. Both Besson and Yamaha make very decent models and I've heard that the Kanstul version is also pretty good.
If you play in Brass Band, these things take the place of "French" horns.
