Hi:

I don't have particularly strong lungs and would to do something besides playing to make them stronger.

Has anyone had any experience with "Breathing Gym" or any like product?

I have used exercises from the Breathing Gym and exercises heavily grounded in the Breathing Gym's exercises. I really like them and they definitely help out. I'd definitely recommend.

I had immediate success with the Breathing Gym. I highly recommend it.

You may also want to venture into breathing instruments.

I'm a big fan of the inspiron....

The Breathing Gym completely changed the way I approached breathing. All of the exercises are easy yet very effective. Plus, Sam Pilafian and Patrick Sheridan provide some humor along the way. I believe it is a must buy for any brass player. :tuba:

I have not seen the video, and I cannot remember what the content was supposed to be.

But, one thing to do is maintain good health. Get out and exercise. Doing this will do a lot for your vital capacity, as well as decreasing your "at rest" workload on your cardiovascular system, which will allow for more available air when you are playing. Cardiovascular exercise and swimming are good places to start. I know this will take you away from the tuba for a while, but I think that is a good thing sometimes.

This is great advice.

I know you can find breathing exercises online...
If you didn't want to spend the money, but wanted to help your lungs, you could do that. Drum Corps also helps, especially those in DCI...They work your lungs, and give you a workout, putting you in good shape.

Pat and Sam were in residence with us in 2003.

That summer of Phantom Regiment was amazing. They really have packaged most of their thoughts very well into their two books Breathing Gym and Brass Gym.

Pat and Sam are transparent educators, in that they hold no secrets to what makes them great. The things they do are the things they teach others to do.

Go ahead, get the breathing Gym Book and DVD, but if you do so I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE buying the Brass Gym too. These guys have a very different way of thinking in a lot of aspects and both of these books are a good 180 from many other sources of pedagogy/instruction.
