Don't forget. the piece was written for Bruce's good friend Tommy Johnson. I'm sure he has a recording of himself playing it. Probably more than one.
To my knowledge, the only recording that Tommy Johnson has is from the tuba conference held at USC in 1976(?). It's a live recording with wind ensemble (all LA studio musicians) and Broughton conducting. He may also have a recording of the Sonata's premiere with Broughton playing piano, but I'm not confident of that.
