This may have been discused before, but I cant find any info.

I am looking to switch to a CC tuba from my BBb tuba. I found a 2J for sale, and I would like to know from people who have/had one what their feelings were on this horn.

*I am a tuba student in college.

thanks in advance

It is a good tuba. Probably not as good as your YBB-641, though.

Davy, why not ask your teacher? You are going to get nothing but conjecture here. IMO, it's the person behind the horn and not the horn that makes the sound. Ray Stewart, he of Meridian Arts Ensemble fame and now at SUNY-Fredonia, made a 2J roar. I have heard people sound 10x worse on 10x more expensive equipment. Get behind a couple dozen horns YOUR INSTRUCTOR ADVISES YOU TO (remember, he/she knows your playing best) and make your choice with his/her ears in the room.

Are you performance? Education major?

If you are ED, then probably stay with what you know. Unless of course you want a challenge...like I did. I personally like the good 'ol C tubas........

If you find a decent 2J, they're very nice horns. Very flexible, very "american" sound. Try before you buy, and have your teacher check it out with you.

Well, it's obvious by my name what horn I play. I love mine. Yes, I'd love to have a larger bored Mirafone or Meinl Weston. But for my weekend warrior purposes, it's a great horn.

Harvey Phillips did pretty well with a similar tuba, but there will be occasions when you want a BIG instrument. Don't forget your BBb fingerings.
