take my euph grad student, please

I have a euphonium player graduating this spring. She is looking to do musicology or ethno, but still have the opportunity to play euphonium in ensembles. Also TA/GA positions are important. She is looking at Bowling Green and University of Oregon right now but would love to hear about other places that excel at both musicology and low brass/bands. She is a terrific player with a lush sound and loves to play, but she is a brainiac/ researcher type at heart.

I'm surprised she isn't considering Kansas, right up the highway, particularly if she has an interest in musicology.

Unfortunately, Daniel Politoske isn't there anymore, but Paul Laird is an outstanding department head, and you won't find a more challenging (or nationally respected) musicology program anywhere.

In-state tuition, assistantships are plentiful, and I know you are familiar with Scott Watson's studio and the very good tuba/euphonium choir there. Sounds like a no-brainer to me!

EDIT: It would seem Dr. Politoske is "still around" as a professor emeritus at KU. What an incredibly valuable resource!

Don't know anything about the musicolgy department but have you considered University of Arkansas with Ben Pierce?
