I don't know how you are using your ensemble terminology, but Grundman's "Tuba Rhapsody" is for tuba and symphonic band. It's incredibly fun to play. I don't see mention of it too much here, but it's a great piece that I think deserves a checking-out.

The Grundman is fun to play.

The Bruce Broughton Concerto/Sonata (not it's official title, but it's fitting) is well written, not really easy, and the best 2nd movement this side of RVW.

Barbara York's Concerto was restructured for band, but I'm not sure of the status of it.

Undoubtedly BVD will chime in soon!

All packaged and ready to go. It was premiered at Eastman earlier this year by Alex Reeder. On the Cimaron site, there are sound samples with Orchestra.

I think it is fun, musical and very solid chart!

Can you give the level of the ensemble you are planning to play with? Sometimes this a is a determining factor in what a soloist can and cannot choose unfortunately or fortunately!

The Vaughan WIlliams also has an accompaniment done by Denis Wick which works well.

Bruce Broughton wrote the Sonata for tuba and piano first and orchestrated the piano part a couple of years later for wind ensemble. He's a gifted piano player (played the premiere with Tommy Johnson), as well as orchestrator.

If you'll forgive the self-promotion, I've got a new piece for tuba and wind ensemble that was a finalist for this year's ITEA Harvey Phillips composition award. It's a 13-minute concertino in three continuous movements. I'd be honoured to have it performed by a fellow tubenetter!

I'm not sure who the rental agent is, but yes, the full orchestral accompaniment was completed and was made available, last I heard. The premiere of the full orchestral accompaniment was performed a few years ago by Carol Jantsch and the now-defunct Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.

Check out Aldo Forte's Dance Rhapsody for Tuba and Band. Andy Rummel (a frequent tubenetter/prof. @ Illinois State/former Air Force Bandsman) played the premiere, as it was written for him. There is a recording at the Heritage of America band's website. Check out the CD entitled "Band Dances".

The piece is very audience friendly, well orchestrated, and the tuba part sits in a great register. Aldo really has a great piece that hsn't gotten the mileage it deserves.

Some of the tunes like Blue Bells of Scotland, Napoli, and Carnival of Venice have band accompaniment as well.

There is band accompaniment for Bach's Air and Bouree as transcribed by Bill Bell and J. Ed. Barat's Intro and Dance.

I am a big fan of most of Barton Cummings' works, some of which are scored for wind band.

I also really like the Broughton Concerto, the Ewazen Concerto, and the Vaughan Williams Concerto when they are accompanied by band. The Jager Concerto is also a really nice piece for tuba and band.

Hopefully some of these strike your fancy.

Does anyone know if the Koetsier Concertino has band accompaniment?

I purchased a copy of the Broughton, and am finding it an accessible launchpad for some (hopefully) good music making.
We'll see - working on it!

It works pretty well on my MW rotary Eb (though I suspect it might work better on a 3/4 CC, at least for me).

Does anyone know of any recordings of this piece with band?
I'd really love to hear the whole thing...
I'd like to check out Velvet's recording of this - have not done so yet-

Are there any (bootleg?) recordings of Tommy Johnson doing this?

Seems to me there is a setting of Variations on "Endearing Young Charms" for tuba and winds that isn't too bad.

"The Carioca" that Harvey Phillips recorded some years ago is still the coolest tuba solo with band accompaniment ever. The charts are barely legible, but it's in the military band library. Seems to me there was some talk about publishing it. Did that ever happen?
