If you are in NC you might want to stop by the tuba exchange.
If not, your other options are:
Dillon Music, NJ
Baltimore Brass Company, MD
Brasswind, IN
Horn guys, CA
Custom Music, MI
that's about it for place to go that will have tubas in stock to try out.
Good Luck,
Bill

I have not been to all the music stores in the state, but the only one that has a tuba in stock to my knowledge is Whipkey's on Canton Road in Marietta. When I asked to play it recently I got a look of total astonishment from the owner, so I just left. It's a Conn 52J BBb.

I should resist the urge to be so nerdy,but,52j is a CC.If it's a BBb it's a king 2341.The king would also be more likely to be in stock at a local music store, since they are very popular with schools.

Okay, I'll be nerdy too. If it was a Conn and BBb it was a 5J and not a 52J. Conn does indeed still make a BBb.

OK, I'll be an even bigger nerd. The last time I was at Whipkey's, they indeed had a Conn 56J CC. Very nice player, with case. He's also willing to deal a little to sell it. GA taxes are payed on held inventory every year . . . OUCH!
Whipkey's also had a Miraphone 186 BBb.

I didn't get a chance to get within 20 feet of it so it's not surpising that I didn't know exactly what it was. I'm gald to know someone got to play it. That one was all he had in the showroom that day, early September. Our conversation went some thing like this, "Is that a King BBb back there? ". "No it's a Conn." "Could I play it?" .............

Too bad. It really is a nice example of the "modern" Conn CC's.
