There's a great new resource on the Presidio Brass website. It's a free download page that includes a ton of exercises, including two daily routines, major and minor scale exercises in all twelve keys, a Bordogni vocalise, and best of all, rhythmic and intonation duets. The rhythmic duets start with a easy melody (like yankee doodle) played by both players and repeated so that each player will play only a few notes of the melody at a time. Eventually, the parts trade off playing one note at a time, which when played correctly, should sound like one player. Download a few and check it out!

...and also on behalf of us older community band types, thanks! Quick question. I went to the Presidio Brass site linked above. Can anyone tell me what tuba the group's tubist, Scott Sutherland, is playing (or at least photographed holding).

The tuba in the pictures as well as the one I play in the quintet is a Yamaha 822 F tuba. For those who've noticed, you may be wondering why there are only three valve caps on the home page picture. My tuba and I had an encounter with some of the mossy (and quite slippery) rocks at La Jolla Beach during this photo shoot. My fourth valve stem snapped off and the bottom bow, main tuning slide and couple of other misc tubes were crushed. It's hard to see most of the damage because of shadows. Needless to say, it was hard to force a smile for those shots!
