While on tour in Europe back in April I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Schlipf in Vienna. He and his nice wife met me at the hall and brought along a bunch of mutes for testing. They were great people to talk too even though my german stunk up the joint! I ended up getting a practice mute for my 6/4 Nirschl. It came in handy the rest of the tour for use backstage and hotel rooms and such. It fits in the bell flush and then in the gig bag. Great product and idea. Highly recommended.
I also tried the straight/cup mute combo. I was blown away by the craftsmanship of this mute. It is one heavy sucker though! Not ideal for quick mute changes. The sound and pitch did not quite do it for me on my horn. He has the ability to adjust the rubber "corks" for tuning and such but we just did not get it to where I'd like it. I was just happier with what I was already using and he agreed what I had sounded better in my horn. This is not to say however that the Schlipf won't work for someone else.

Hi-
Contact Lee for pricing--due to what he has in stock, the size for the horn(s) it is needed for, the $$ vrs. the Euro, etc.
Thanks-

I've had my Schlipf practice mute for a few months now, and I really like it. I haven't had a *lot* of experience with other mutes, but this one is convenient (sticks less than an inch out of the bell) and works very well (I can play the tuba quietly). It makes the bell a little top-heavy, but surely, it could be a lot heavier.
Of course, it is a mute, so there is a difference in sound and "feel," but it's been helpful as well. I think it's really helped me be more aware of centering pitches.
If you're looking for a practice mute, get one and give it a try. Worst case, these are new and there's some buzz about them, so you could probably re-sell it on the For Sale section here.
