I was thinking today about making a slight modifacation to my Miraphone 188. I want to make a post on the 2nd valve tuning slide similiar to the style used on St. Petersburg tubas. I think it's a better/cheaper option than the spring and lever mechanism that is popular on Rudolf Meinl 4/4 CC tubas. I was thinking of putting a few washers around the finger ring on the slide and runnning a rod through the washers to serve as a rod. I would like to avoid soldering anything so it can be easily removed later on. I would put a few pieces of felt inbetween surfaces to protect the laquer and eliminate friction/wear and tear. I think this is a fairly solid idea that could be expounded upon. If nobody knows what I'm talking about there is a parts list on Tuba Exchange's website of St. Pete parts. Thanks for taking the time to think about it. :D

How far from Evansville are you? You should be able to get some good ideas from Dan Schultz, who posts here as "tubatinker." He installed a kicker on my 186 BBb that is the bee's knees. If you check out his site, the Village Tinker, he has photos of the project.
