Just been booked to do the following pieces - any coments on interesting / challenging parts??

Symphonic Dances -Rachmaninov
Fantasia and Fugue in C minor - Bach/Elgar
Spitfire - Prelude and Fugue -Walton
Suite - Sleeping Beauty -Tchaikovsky
Capriccio Italien - Tchaikovsky
Banks of Green Willow - Butterworth
Swedish Rhapsody no.1 - ‘Midsummer’ - Alfven
Autumn (from ‘The Seasons’) - Glazunov
Skater’s Waltz - Waldteufel

Waldteufel is actually a euphonium part. Luck's Music has a tuba part generated at some point by Arthur Luck. Just take your bass tuba and play whatever octave you want. davemills

My hope for you AND the audience is that you aren't doing all of them on the same concert.

Rachmaninov- Nice part, meat and potatos- GET A RECORDING. IT IS TRICKY!!!!
Bach- Good blow, nice part
Tschaik- Good parts on both. Nothing fancy, just good solid stuff
Walton- Not sure, but it should have a meaty tuba part
Alfsven- If memory serves me correct, it has a part, nothing spectacular but it beats sitting around
Waldteufel- Tuba part is mundane at best. Good tune though

Butterworth- No tuba part. Nice piece though
Glazunov-No tuba part. Not his best work so you aren't missing anything.

These are all things you will play many times. Good big horn work out. In tune-on time would be your marching orders. Enjoy.

There is a Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble recording of the Walton with some pretty sweet tuba playing. I think there is a euph excerpt on an arrangement from Spitfire, but I don't remember if it is the same one... Regardless, it looks like a great lineup!
