Grand Rapids York Sousaphones

Post by Tubaing »

Do the Grand Rapids York Sousaphones and Helicons have the same playing characteristics as the upright York tubas?

I've had several York BBb and Eb sousas, including one of each that had four pistons, that were not exactly spectacular.

I've had a couple of the 'monster' Yorks that were OK but I don't consider most of the Yorks I've seen as the 'holy grail'.

In other words, I don't regard just the name 'York' to be synonymous with 'great'.

Current 'stable'... Rudolf Meinl 5/4, Marzan (by Willson) euph, King 2341, Alphorn, and other strange stuff.
