Is there a Tuba Christmas this year anywhere in the SF Bay Area? Since Tony stopped sponsoring the annual Tuba Christmas in San Jose a few years ago, I have been looking for something to take its place.

Well, it's not tubachristmas, but if you want to join my little gang (~15 folks last year) in downtown Saratoga on the evening after Thanksgiving, you're certainly welcome. I have plenty of the Forrest Buchtel Christmas Time books to lend, so folks show up with a lyred horn, a light, and warm clothes, and we stroll up and down main street tootling away.

It's all-comers, all-ages, though, so if you seek a professional-level low-brass-only experience, you'll be disappointed. It's my first opportunity to play my beater Pan-American eBay horn, so there will be at least one sousaphone present :D

Drop me a pm for details if you're interested.

The San Jose event that Dave mentions was called Tubafest by its founder, Tony Clements. It played at a large shopping mall around the time of Christmas, and attracted 200 or more low brass players. I think 2003 was the last time it was produced. http://www.tubafest.com/" target="_blank

I did a Tubafest for many years. When Eastridge rebuilt and got new management, they decided they didn't need us anymore. I have approached several venues and no one seems interested. We'll try again for next year.

As an Aside, I was not ALLOWED to do a TubaChristmas, because I wouldn't use their music or follow their format.
