There are some big differences between the original manuscript version of the concerto and the published version later on. In particular, the 3rd movement has some distinctly different stuff near the end. That might explain the differences you are hearing. Hope that helps!

Hi. I know of three different versions of this work, and the basic differences are in the ending. When the work first came out, I ordered a solo copy from Hal Leonard and this had the ending with all running sixteenth notes in the lower octave (I don't have it in front of me so..I will have to check the exact numbers, etc). The second version came out with this exact same passage written up an octave, and there is finally the version that exists today which is a truncated version of this passage. As I understand it, JW "cleaned-up" this passage to make it not only easier to play, but a little more transparent. If I am not mistaken, there were also some slight changes to the cadenza, but the general shape and notes are the same.

Hope that that helps,
Cheers, DK
