Gene Pokorny , Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at 3 PM Chicago time
Just the below email from Gene Pokorny. This is a must listen if you can.
Hi Troops,
Tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at 3 PM Chicago time, I will give a tuba recital live on the radio in Chicago. For those in Chicago this recital can be found on WFMT 98.7 FM For those outside of Chicago the radio station broadcast will be “streamed” on http://www.wfmt.com" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank The exact starting time will be a couple of minutes past 3 PM, Central Standard Time. Sorry for any multiple sendings of e-mails. If you happen to know of any who may be interested in this on not see their names on the copy list, please pass this note along to them.
I am very pleased that participating in the recital as well will be Yoko Yamada (pianist) and Rex Martin (tubist and narrator). Carolyn Paulin will be the WFMT announcer who will be hosting the event.
Below is a tentative program for the event:
First movement from “Concerto No. 1 for Violin” Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Arranged for tuba and piano by Tommy Johnson (1935-2006)
Second movement from “Tuba Concerto” (1954) Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
Selected movements from “Visions Fugitive” Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953)
Arranged for Tuba and Piano by Beth Lodal
“Tuba Sonata ” (2006-7) Anthony Plog (b. 1947)
i. Calm and Flowing
ii. Presto
iii. Slow and with freedom
iv. Allegro
“Monument – An Elegy in Memory of Tommy Johnson” (2007) John Stevens (b. 1951)
“Animal Ditties” (1978) Anthony Plog (b. 1947)
Text by Ogden Nash
Vivace from “Concerto No. 3” Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
“Double Violin Concerto”
………………………………………………………………………..
This should be a proper start to Thanksgiving week in America. What you won’t get in turkey here you’ll probably end up with stuffing. (Be careful, Jonathan Rees. I know that means something else in the UK!!!)
Cheers, Gene .

Did anyone manage to record the online stream of this broadcast? I tried to set my computer to record the show (it was on at an inhumane hour in this part of the world) but mangled a setting somewhere, and I'd love to hear it.
Thanks,
Cam

However, I have subscribed to the "Specials" podcast on the station. They did not say that it was going to be offered via podcast but the "Specials" gives a general description of "Special Events on WFMT".
If It's offered, i'll post.
Good stuff. The presentation was very relaxed yet professional. These were people who were enjoying what they were doing. Pokorny said at one point, "Tubists don't have delusions of grandeur. Tubists have delusions of adequacy".
Gene, if you are reading this, you were *grand*.

I liked the wide-ranging performance and interview.
Mr. Pokorny made a shipboard analogy that made me think, that when the tuba needs to get the conductor's attention, the communication is like "Engine room to Bridge."

I thought that it was an exceptional performance, I really enjoyed it. And it was easy to listen to. I mean it was easy to find, and I didn't have to drive or pay for it . (I would pay for it if I had the opprotunity to go though!)

Chisham,
Is there any way you can post radio events like this as an announcement for tuba soloists, and so forth. I would not have gotten the opportunity to hear this if it was not for this forum

I was out and about today, but I was able to get my computer to record the broadcast. I just need to isolate the actual performance segment. I'll post it whenever I can.
I've never actually posted any audio files online, so if anyone can lead me to the right direction it would be much appreciated.

I would love to hear the broadcast. If you Google "free mp3 hosting", you'll have many choices. I posted a recording our church did using http://www.ripway.com" target="_blank. It was very easy. If your file is already in mp3 format, then you'll simply updoad it. If not, then you'll have to use your media player to convert to mp3 before uploading. RipWay has a 30 mb maximum, while other sites offer more for free. Once you've completed the upload, you'll be given an address / link. Copy and paste that link on TubeNet and we'll all be able to hear it.

Tony,
Thanks for the post! Do you know if there is a way to listen without setting up a facebook account?
Hope all is well!

No account needed for mere listening. I would know as I can listen without having an account. But I canºt download.Jeff Keller wrote: Do you know if there is a way to listen without setting up a facebook account?

Thanks,
I would put a good signature here, but i dont have one, so this will make do.
