Special Orders

Post by Ace »

Last week I ordered from a large music store in New England a trombone which, according to Yamaha, is back-ordered at the factory and will not be available until March 2009. The store took my credit card number as part of writing up the order. Today, I see the store has already billed my credit card even though delivery is at least three to four months away. In fifty years of buying instruments, dealers have always waited until shipment to bill me. This is a new one to me, and I'm puzzled. Have any of you had an experience like this? I'm trying to understand this from the dealer's point of view. Does the dealer have to pay the manufacturer at the time the special order is placed?

This is not a huge issue with me, but it is different from what I've experienced over the years.

I'd call 'em, Ace, and find out. It's one thing to have the number as a security, completely different to run it.

But, yeah, maybe pre-payment is required by the factory. You'll have to ask the store.
