I had the pleasure of performing on many occasions with Tommy Sancton and Peter Ecklund while Sancton was at Harvard about 40 years ago. A recording that we made with him for George Buck has been re-issued on CD as BCD-1. We learned a lot about New Orleans jazz from him, and reading his book was very special treat for me. In one chapter he describes a racial incident that occurred at a jam session in New Orleans which I remember quite well because I was there with my tuba.
Tommy is a very talented clarinetist and a wonderful writer.
