I'll build one for my CC (if I don't sell it) if I can find the crooks. I guess I could do a little custom bending, but even the 19.5mm OD tubing might be a chore to find. I've emailed Mirafone but I gather from some previous posts that they aren't usually much help.holtek wrote:Ebay?
I'm still hunting for one of them adapter slides.

Yes!... if you can find three Mirafone 183 or 184 tuning slide crooks, six ferrules, and a couple of feet of 19.5mm OD inner slide tubing you should be able to fashion your own. The difference between a CC tuba and a BBb tuba is the BBb tuba has two more feet of tuding (in theory). I don't know how this would play, but it's worth trying. I don't know if Mirafone ever offerred a slide such as this for the 184 but I think they had one for the 186's. Badger State Repair can get the crooks and tubing. I'm working with Ed Stregge at the moment to see if Mirafone will/can supply such a slide. If not, Ed can make one or provide the parts.holtek wrote:Crooks? Are you proposing that it would be possible to manufacture this thing from donor parts? Maybe I can find some brass tubing next time I'm in Europe on a project. Actually, I'll be working a project in Germany the beginning of next year.TubaTinker wrote: I'll build one for my CC (if I don't sell it) if I can find the crooks. I think the one Bloke sold was for a 186... not the pea-shooter 183 and 184. I questioned him about it and he suggested that most tubas have enough intonation quirks without throwing another piece of hardware into the fray. My theory is... if it isn't perfect... then mess with it a little to see if it improves. If it doesn't get better you can always put it back.PhilW. wrote:Bloke recently sold an adapter slide on E-Bay. He probably played it, so he could say what it plays like.

Joking aside, this is a very good way to determine the tube lengths of slides, leadpipes, and sousa necks. Start by having too much and whack it until you get it in tune. Then just build your brass assembly the same length minus a little to pull out the slide a little.holtek wrote:How 'bout poly tubing and hose clamps? My horn isn't exactly in heirloom condition.
