Al....was I seeing things or did you actually play La Gazza Ladra? I didn't think any of Rossini's works had tuba parts. I remember playing a part that someone had cobbled together while I was in high school, but I didn't think it was that popular. Actually, on that same concert I played a made up part to L'arlésienne, too. But I'm sure you didn't play that tune tonight....you looked like you were enjoying the music just sitting and listening!

It was a great show. They played La Gazza Ladra on the New Year's concert, I think, 3 years ago as well and Mr. Baer played then too. In fact, on a Chicago DVD with Solti conducting (I believe in the 70s) there is only one trombone playing (Kleinhammer) and one tuba playing (Jacobs). I don't know what it calls for I don't have a score.

Ok...so I wasn't crazy...Al was playing....but does the piece actually have a tuba part? I don't recall seeing an arranger listed when the title of the tune flashed on the screen.

Yep, it sure does. We had this piece for our placements this year. Some tricky stuff!

When CSO played La Gazza Ladra on their Tchaik 5 concert this year, they did it with only Charlie Vernon.
