I don't know what Phil Grease is but Super Lube is the only grease I have in the shop. Unless you bring your own, this is what horns leave here with on the slides.

Terrific. Why? Why do you like it? Is it cheap? Is it good smelling? Good tasting? Is it long lasting? Just thick/thin enough? Do you like a pinch between your cheek and gum (or other "cheek" )? Non-toxicity? Why?
Yes... cheap. Considering that you only need a tiny dab to do the job.

No taste. I sometimes get silly and sling stuff around the shop. Never had it in my cheek, though.

No smell.

Just thick enough to keep contrary slides from falling out and just thin enough to not cause a mess.

Never dries out.

And thins easily by adding a few drops of valve oil, lamp oil, etc. Being fully synthetic, it seems to mix with just about any lubricant.... making it quite versatile.

"Phil Wood Waterproof [bicycle] Grease"...??
I've used it before, and it works well enough. But I prefer grease that isn't a vile color, because eventually it's gonna get on my white tuxedo shirt.

And for bicycles, I prefer the white Campagnolo grease. That stuff isn't bad on slides, either.

Mr. Bjerre,

To the best of my recollection, this was the guys' favourite:

Why don’t you just ask seriously? Of course your reply comes from sort of the horse’s mouth, but I don’t want any pick-up horse, when I in this case can have a real Troian Horse provide the answer.

BTW: Does this Halloween Spirit come with its own aligned O-rings of the Gazza Ladra brand? (O as in Overture).

Which super lube do you use on your tuba. I checked out their web site and they had several including one for railroad use and another that was nuclear grade? Both sound very cool. :tuba:

When performing Rossini, crossbow rail lubricant.

(it does work, but it's expensive)

Are you into the “an apple a day”-thing?

That is reserved for the head of the class.

I have not been that pleased with the tube of slide grease I bought at a local music store a while ago. Based upon Tuba Tinker's post I picked up some Super Lube at an Ace hardware store. What an improvement! And you are correct -- it is cheap. The $5.95 tube should last me for a number of years. Thanks for the tip.
