No marching but was on the City of Long Beach Float as a member of the Long Beach Municipal Band. I left the euphonium at home and played trombone.

If, and I emphasize the word "if," I were to march in a parade, The Rose Bowl Parade would certainly qualify well for that honor.

I have marched in quite a few parades in my life (lost count at around 250 and that was maybe 15 years ago) and the best big parade I have been in was the Midosuji parade in Osaka. In that parade some of the floats were carried by hundreds of men and they have mock battles with other similar floats, trying to push them off the street. I don't know if they still do that.TubaRay wrote:If, and I emphasize the word "if," I were to march in a parade, The Rose Bowl Parade would certainly qualify well for that honor.
It is not a very old parade - started in 1983, but it is really big! They bring in bands and other performers from all over the world. Any of you who are band directors should look into it.
Never did the Rose Parade, but I did play a baritone horn with a bunch of lumberjack band people from somewhere in SoCal (not Humboldt) in the Doo Dah Parade #7.

Well, I guess I'm the first (and only?).
I was asked to march with the Salvation Army, great group of people. We had 2 days to memorize 2 songs... for the cameras. Then out came the flip folders and we rotated thru about 10 songs. A couple guys had difficulty with the distance... but they all made it. One timbrel girl fell because of the horse poo. It was fun!
KTLA (5) got good shots of my horn and right hand, I was 4th rank on the outside/camera side. KABC (7) stayed on me long enough to show the side of my face.
Regards,
Bob

I marched with the Bands of America Honor Band. Remember the four Sesame Street floats with the marching band surrounding it? That was us. There were 316 band members and 17 sousas. In one of the KTLA shots, a sousaphone bell marches past, taking up almost half the screen. Actually, I think nbc had a very similar angle. That was my bell!
