Similar to viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31103 but with tuning slide in different place.

Sousa on right:
Conn 4 Valve BBb

Middle tuba:
Conn Eb (19J?).

OK.... from left to right...
1) Maybe a Keefer 4V BBb sousaphone? Keefer made alot of horns with unique valve set designs. But I can't find anything that looks just like it, with the valve alignment that vertical.
2) The bugle is wraped like a circa 1915 King BBb and valves are laid out the same too.
3) Conn 19J EEb, the only difference is the 2nd valve slide.
4) Similar to the Conn mentioned above but the ferrules and several slides are wrong, so I am still baffled.
5) Definately a Conn 40K 4V BBb sousaphone.

I'm not aware of Distin/Keefer making any "raincatchers". Nor have I seen any in their catalogs. Lots of other people did, though, under different names...

The tuba farthest to the right looks like a Conn Grand Orchestra BB-flat to me...They've got one on the Dillon music web site...here's the link:



Then again, the slides don't quite match up...

The main reason I guessed at Keefer is that when looking through lots of photos of old horns they seem to have the most variations of valve set configurations. Some of the most unique designs were from Keefer. I can't find any other manufacturer that even comes close to the valve set configuration on this sousaphone. Who knows, maybe it was a custom made horn? Somebody made that raincather sousaphone and we are not aware of who it was.

Nope! The grand orchestral is way too big, the horn in the photo is no bigger than the Eb next to it, and the tuning slides aren't even close. Note that the tuba in the photo has a first valve tuning slide that points down instead of up and it wraps around the valves. That is VERY unusual! The only slide pointing up is the third valve.

After down loading the photos and closely looking at them closely I agree that this tuba is a Conn like the one sold on eBay. Only this version has the tuning slide after the valves instead of in the leadpipe. Everything else lines up.

Here is another view of a tuba in the collection at Tuba Exchange. The 4th valve wrap is different and the tuning slide is in the leadpipe, but other than that they look the same. Apparently Conn made many variations on the tuning slide wraps.
