Yea yea... I know this has been discussed. I searched the forums like a prudent Tubenet user should. However, MY noisy valves have not been discussed.

As a result of posting a comment on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0HLSh1S8Hc" target="_blank" target="_blank), Joe Murphy has offered a solution:

"SuperSlick makes great rotary valve oil. It's clear in color, not the "yellow" colored oil. That, combined with a drop of synthetic piston valve oil, (I like Hetman's) makes the rotors quiet and fast. All the best! Joe"

Has this solution worked for others?

There are many possible causes for rotary valve noise. I recommend a visit to a skilled repair person.

Regarding lubrication: I use no less than three different types of lubricant on the various moving parts. Starting with the paddles, I use light machine oil on the axles (bearings) of the paddles. Then, I use ball joint oil (very thick) on the ball joints. Then, I use light machine oil on the top and bottom bearings of the rotors. Finally, I use light valve oil (Blue Juice in my case) poured down the leadpipe to lubricate (and clean and seal) the rotars themselves. Different folks may prefer different particular lubricants, but that's the general outline.

Sources of noise can include: loose or poorly lubricated paddle bearings, loose or poorly lubricated ball joints or linkages, poorly lubricated or loose or worn rotar bearings, rotar bearings in need of adjustment, worn or poor bumpers. A good tech can diagnose this stuff quickly. And, sometimes the fix takes only a few minutes.
