Commission a Piece

Are you looking for someone to compose a piece for you (sorry for asking the seemingly obvious)? Solo or w/ piano accomp.?

My friend and I trying to find someone to compose a duet for euphoniums. We just need some names of people who might commission a piece like this for us.

I've done four commissions this year...a large-scale piece for wind ensemble and three sonatas (horn, trombone, bass trombone). Currently I'm working on an orchestration for the Sachse Concerto for Bass Trombone (who knew the orchestration for this has been lost to history?), but I will have that completed in a couple of weeks. I don't currently have anything "on the plate" after that.

How much are you looking to spend? How much (in minutes) music do you want? Would you prefer a piece just for two euphoniums (no accompaniment), two euphoniums with piano, or two euphonium soloists with a larger ensemble? Any range problems to take into consideration (non-compensating instruments, high range ceiling, etc.)? Are you wanting something basically tonal or more "modern"?

What type of piece do you want to commission? How much do you want to pay?

If you want a serious piece and have the ability to pay, why not ask David Holsinger? He's a major composer but genuine and easy to work with.

How about Luigi Zaninelli? A great composer.

If you want a fun piece, ask Gail Robertson. Her writing is impeccable, great style, fun for audiences and players. You could pay her twice what she asks for and it will still be money well spent. I don't know anyone who knows the euphonium better than Gail and she is a terrific composer/arranger.

We want a duet but we want to be able play them separate as a solo which it could stand alone each part but when you put them together it would be a duet. One solo part would be lyrical and the other technical. What we have planned is an original idea. It has never been done.

I can't seem to think of any offhand but I am pretty sure there are pieces of this nature written for 2 cellos or cello and bass. I am also pretty sure you could find similar pieces written for two flutes. These would be natural and simple transcriptions to make and much cheaper and IMHO makes more sense than commisioning a piece.
