I was asked to upload a picture of the 1925 H. N. White KING "Jumbo" Sousaphone model 1265 (3-valve) I own. The picture is of myself (5' 10") and my two oldest daughters (Rebekah & Emma) at the Purdue University Homecoming in Fall 2005. Since then I have had the interior of the bell stripped and lacquered to replicate the "gold wash" that came on sousaphones of the day and matches the other sousaphones the Alumni use at Purdue.
King "Jumbo" 1265 (3 or 4 valve) model sousaphone came with a standard 32 inch bell. King "Giant" 1270 (3-value) & 1271 (4-valve) model sousaphone came with a standard 28 inch bell.
I know that the H. N. White production records were destroyed in 1965, but how many of you know of someone or personally own a model 1265 "Jumbo"(3 or 4 valve) or model 1270 "Giant" (3-valve) or model 1271 "Giant" (4-valve) KING sousaphone?
Purdue University owns a model 1265 (4-valve) "Jumbo" with the standard 32" bell that they call "Big Bertha."
