Not that I'm looking for a definitive list, but I'm curious as to everyones thoughts as to what the 10 solos that every tubist really should know (or at least own). Here are some of my thoughts:

Core Works - These are absolute standards and are often need for auditions
Vaughan Williams • Concerto
Gregson • Concerto
Penderecki • Capriccio
Hindemith • Sonata

Common Solos: Not necessarily required audition rep. but very standard
Plog • 3 Miniatures
Kraft • Encounters II
Wilder • Effie Suite
Broughton • Sonata

And 2 others that seem to have come up recently a fair bit
Grant • 3 Furies
Stevens • Variations in Olden Style

Any thoughts would be nice.

The John Williams Concerto?

Sarabande and Gavotte has my vote

Swann - Two moods for Tuba
Mueller - Concert Music for Bass Tuba

And, if transcriptions count......

R. Strauss - Concerto # 1 in Eb, Opus 11 for horn and Orchestra
F. Strauss - Nocturno

I pull this solo out about every five years and work on it. I ask myself, "this must be a good piece of music, why haven't I played it?" After I work on it for a day or two, I put it up thinking that I've wasted my time.

Also, I think if this solo was great (or even good) music, it would have been performed more often; as many tuba recitals as I've attended, I've never heard anyone perform it. Has it even been recorded? By that scale it's not as good as the Hindemith Tuba Sonata, which is his clumsiest composition in the sonata series, maybe ever.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that five years from now I'll pull it out and slog through it again.
