It is a very odd strip - you have to get the premise that wild animals live in the suburbs and the crocodiles are always unsuccessfully trying to hunt their zebra neighbors.

If this scientific illustration is correct, apparently chickens have no trouble playing a Helicon:

so maybe alligators (and crocodiles) are capable of playing a Sousaphone after all!

But they still have to read the score - the alligator was obviously going to play by memory!
