I'll be there all three days. I'll be playing the 3rd movement of the Koetsier Concertino in the over 21 tuba competition on Saturday, and then again at on the student recital Sunday morning.
It's gonna be fun, I hope to meet some fellow TubeNetters!

Went. Had fun. Made a little money. Spent more than I made on beer.
Ryan, I really enjoyed your interpretation of the Koetsier. I had never heard the piece before and am now inclined to try my hand at it. Great performance!

Thanks a lot for the kind words. It was certainly an adventure trying to coax the fast runs toward the end out of the ancient, abused rotary valves of that old 186!
If you liked the way it sounded with somebody like me playing it, you should check out Velvet Brown's recording of it. It'll knock your socks off!

Or, if you'd like to hear it the way Mr. Koetsier originally wrote it (with string orchestra accompaniment), you definitely need to listen to Mike Forbes' CD, "Forbes Plays Koetsier." There are a ton of really cool pieces on that recording. If it was written for tuba by Koetsier, it's on that CD. And of course, people who heard Dr. Forbes' performance at GPRTEC (or anywhere else) doesn't need me to tell them how great he sounds on it!

Here is a second for the CD:

It is one of my favorites. The playing is great and the variety of the ensembles is very cool!
