I went to a bass conference last year where I saw a Tshirt saying, "No, I don't wish I'd played piccolo!"

My favorite thing about playing the tuba is being able to sit in the back and see the trumpet players ears turn red because they are blasting so hard! Do you guys know any trumpet players who can play soft AND in tune?
Playing tuba wasn't really my choice. When I was in the third grade (MANY years ago) the call went out for kids to be in band. Lazy as I was, I was the last one to get to the band room and all the cool stuff was already taken.
Now... after many years of tinkering with just about everything from bagpipes (on the low end of the spectrum) to virtually all woodwind and brasswind instruments I would like to say 'thanks' to that grade school band director that need a tuba to fill out his band. Why? ... 'cause tubas are COOL! Oh yea... I forgot to mention percussion. We don't need no stinking drums!

The chicks dig it!

-people asking me if I put dead bodies in my case
-responding the 'bet you wish you played the flute' with 'I do'
-threatening to use my case as a battering ram
-I don't know... they're just great!

I love the feeling you get when you are the pedal root of a huge chord and you feel like the entire orchestra is sitting on your shoulders!!!!!

That is what playing the TUBA is all about

Nothing pleases me more than hearing trumpet players trip out when I play their rep better than they do.....

Now if I could only win a job.....hehehehe....

My favorite one that I've been told is "Hey, I bet you could fit into your case!"

i personally have always enjoyed people's fascination with the tuba...... AND STICKING THEIR HEAD IN THE BELL WHILE I BLAT A BEAUTIFUL NOTE!!

I had a trombone-playing friend who started noodling on tuba for brass techniques class in college.

Within about two notes, she noticed that her whole entire lap was vibrating. She realized how the sensation, um, felt, and she immediately thought, "Oh, so THIS is why you guys like to play tuba!"

to consume vast quantities of beer or other liquorous substances of all quality levels.

Principal pay plus cartage to play one piece out of seven on a concert...

My favorite thing is trying to convince all the horn players in my school that Strauss really did write that concerto for tuba.
