Have known abt this recording (LP) for years, but have never been able to put my hands on a copy . . . until now. Was spending an Amazon gift card last week, when I had the good fortune of stumbling upon a new copy, on CD. Wow! For those of you (like me) who are Fletch fans, you gotta get a copy. Most of the liner notes are in Japanese, but the audio (playing) is universally astounding .

Tchaik/Miniature Overture from Nutcracker (Fletch playing all 4 parts)
Elgar/Chanson de Matin
Wagner/O Du Mein Holder Abendstern from Tannhauser
Mussorgsky/Song of the Flea
Mozart/Non Piu Andrai from Le Nozze di Figaro
Hartley/Suite for Unaccompanied Tuba
Hindemith/Sonata
Glass/Sonatina

This is Fletch at his finest. I'm esp tickled to finally have another recording of the Hartley, and the Glass (written for Fletch) is a cool piece that fits the tuba well (how's that for an academic review?).

I bought the LP back in the 80's sometime. The CD has been available from CDJapan for several years..

I was a little gun-shy about giving my CC info to an overseas company, etc. - but they were completely legit and the CD arrived in about 10 days.

Also, I think the best piece on the CD is the Wagner. If you are interested in playing it, the sheet music is available here:

I bought mine in a used CD shop in Antwerp, Belgium back in my army band days. Boy was I suprised to see it there . . . I was just listening to it the other day. BTW - I have a copy with english liner notes as well as the Japanese.
