A few pages back, there is a post from a student lamenting about the lack of affordable 5/4 tubas. Whether or not there really are no "cheap" 5/4 tuba, I'm not qualified to say, but it did get me thinking, what ever happened to that Allora 5/4 that was similar to the B&S PT-6P? Did those ever make it to the states? I believe back then (ITEC 2006) Roger Lewis said that they would sell for around 7K new, which would make them "affordable" compared to similar horns on the market. The reports from the conference were positive with most saying it had good pitch with a slightly "leaner" sound than a PT-6P.
Speaking of affordable 5/4 tubas, I know Kanstul makes a pretty good 5/4 BBb tuba. Any plans to make a CC tuba version of that horn? With the high cost of imports, it would seem that an American made alternative would do quite well.
Allora and Kanstul 5/4 tubas?
