Whatever the reason, it was a nice touch.
I didn't think tuba players needed a reason to be in the beer aisle?!

Okay, maybe "why" was the wrong word...more like "how you were able get get there with your tuba?" It's damn cool, and I'm a little jealous.

My Rudolf Meinl custom 5/4 F tuba. Once the CC is overhauled, I'll do some shots with it.

How does it play? I would imagine good for standing gigs - not too heavy?

The body of the horn is gold brass but the valve section is yellow brass. Odd combination but it works great for me. I didn't order it that way but I'm sure glad it came that way.

What a beast! And Cerveny calls that a 5/4? I wonder what a 6/4 form them would look like?

Light as a feather, and the oval shape makes it very stable. Ergonomically ... it either works or it doesn't, I have to hoist it up a bit to play. This is essentially the same as the current Cerveny F, I think the bore is something like .720. Intonation is fine, no issues on the low end, tone is ... focused? I can't say I have really used it much. Søren (? my browser renders it more like SÀ,ren) had a nice one up for sale in December.

Thanks Bob. The Yamaha YFB822 Custom is a very nice F horn and has drawn several favorable comments from the musicians in my community bands. Kenneth Heinlein sold it to me last December.
