Anybody have any experience using a clip on tuner with a tuba? How well does it work? Any recomendations?

Try clipping the mic on in various places. The bell tends not to work very well in my experience. Usually a brace somewhere, or even a spit valve lever, works better.

I just ordered Intellitouch's new Center Pitch CP2, which was mentioned in some earlier postings. As soon as I receive it I will let you know what I think.

CP2 Tuner

Well,

I got my Intellipitch CenterPitch 2 Tuner (CP2) in the mail yesterday so I guess I can give a couple of preliminary comments.

To be brief...I like it. It clips to the leadpipe (or anywhere else) and use a system of "moving" arrows to show whether you are flat or sharp. It also benefits from NOT having a mic (clip on or otherwise) so it senses the vibrations of your instrument only, a true benefit in a noisy situation. It seems to sense the lower register of the tuba pretty well, which is good, as even guitar/bass tuners seem to be a bit touchy with bass despite manufacturer's claims. I used it to set my main slide and then fine tune the other slides and I must say the instrument sounds great and in tune. Is it a replacement for a set of ears? No, but for $24 bucks (at a well known brasswind retailer, and probably anywhere else) it seems like a pretty nice little tool. It might even fine tune your ears.

I think at least a number of us are talking about an acoustic pickup rather than a clip-on microphone (like a lapel mic).

At any rate...

I liked using mine. When everyone else is warming up and I'm ready to tune my tuba, I clip it on, and I can get myself adjusted even with all the other racket.
